M & M Air Service Holding Liquidation Auction Jan. 9 as it Closes its Doors
M & M Air Service has had a long and storied role in the agricultural aviation industry. The Stearman M & M ag planes on display at the National Agricultural Aviation Museum in Jackson, Mississippi, is evidence of that.

After 74 years in business, the past 54 years under the ownership of operator George Mitchell, M & M Air Service in Beaumont, Texas, is closing its doors and holding a liquidation auction of its assets. Mitchell is retiring and has contracted with Starman Bros. Auctions to sell all of M & M’s assets at a public auction that will be conducted live and online simultaneously.

The one-day auction will be held Saturday, Jan. 9, at two locations. The first half of the auction will begin at 9 a.m. CT at 412 Airport Road, Winnie, TX 77665 (on The Winnie Texas Airport). The second half of the auction will begin at approximately 1 p.m. CT at 12895 Highway 124, Beaumont Texas 77705.

The listing for the online bidding can be found at Starmanauctions.proxibid.com. Interested online bidders must sign up on ProxiBid before the day of the auction on Jan. 9.

All of M & M Air Service’s assets are being liquidated. Items available for purchase at the auction include two Air Tractor 802A air tankers (manufactured in 1995 and 2000) and a 2001 AT-802A ag aircraft, an auger truck and three loader trucks, a fuel truck, an inventory of Air Tractor and Stearman parts, three firefighting support trailers, a large selection of ground rig equipment, and much more.

More information on the auction, including a complete list of items up for auction, is available here and here (sale bill).

M & M Air Service has had a long and storied role in the agricultural aviation industry. The company was founded in 1946 by brothers Poley and Fields Mitchell (technically George Fields Mitchell Sr.). George Mitchell Jr. joined his father and uncle at the business in 1956 and became its owner in 1966. He later served as NAAA’s president, in 1973.

NAAA wishes George, his son Andy and the entire Mitchell family all the best in George’s retirement.
